How to Promote Yourself the Right Way

So you’re a musician with a story to tell and no one to listen? You are not alone! In our modern age, it’s easier than ever to make your music accessible, but unfortunately, that means that the market is incredibly saturated. You may have written the best song since “Stairway to Heaven,” but it’s all for naught if nobody hears it. Here are a few tips on how to improve your self-promotion:

Have a social media presence but do it the right way!

Social media is inescapable and as a brand, you have to be active on all the usual platforms. However, the social media audience is a fickle one and striking the right chord is important. Don’t just market yourself- use the platform to interact with fans and post interesting and entertaining content unrelated to your music. Give your fans a sense of your personality.

Have an attractive website.

With sites like Squarespace and Wix, it is easier than ever to create a site without shelling out hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars to a designer. Keep it simple, but make sure that it’s a site that you would be excited to visit if you were a fan. Have some photo/video content available, as well as important information like tour dates and where to buy your music and merchandise.

Create physical content.

In this digital age, we often forget about physical content. Nevertheless, there is something to be said about having something tangible to give audience members at your shows. This could be a bootleg CD, business card with a link to a free download, or even customized thumb drives loaded up with your EP.

Though it may seem overwhelming, the good news is you have all the tools! It will just take some time and practice to learn the right way to use them.

  • Phil Kitze

Someone is already selling my music on Spotify. So I need this to stop before I put anything on Spotify. My name is Phil Kitze. Phil Kitze and the Resonators “The Sky is Clearing” CD, Phil Kitze “Favorite Sons of the Past” CD, and also Phil Kitze and the Resonators “Backlash” CD are all my compositions. I have NEVER authorized this. And I have not made 1 cent from you but you are selling my songs and someone is making money on them. Please direct me to whomever can get ahold of me to get his stopped. Then I will gladly put my music on there. I have a new CD of all originals coming out soon. I would love to have it on there but not until you investigate who is putting my music on there without my consent. My phone number is (763) 780-3486. Thanks
